Not if they have requested you do that. It would be similar to sending mail In Care Of someone else. You cannot hold the mail without permission and must return it to the mail carrier.
Yes yes. It is illegal for anyone to hold another person's mail from them intentionally.
Yes Yes
In normal circumstances the Royal Mail promises to attempt to deliver your mail. They are not allowed to deliberately with hold it without a court order.
As far as the mail is concerned - it is covered by US Statute and it is illegal for anyone to take anyone's mail out of the mailbox for any purpose. In fact it is even illegal to place anything into a mailbox that was not delivered by the US Mail - the Post Offcie can and many times demanded that postage be paid on those items. What do you mean by "hold" their mail? Either you live somewhere or you don't.
940 Illinois resident where to mail
Yes, but it's the post office you are supposed to give a fowarding address to.
The mail is the property of the US Postal Service, and therefore of the US government, until it gets to the intended recipient. One has to wonder how the landlord got hold of the mail before the recipient did. Removing another person's mail from that person's mailbox is indeed illegal. If the mail is inside the apartment and the unit is legally closed to the tenant for whatever reason, that is different. Once mail is in the hands of the intended recipient, then the argument that denying access to it is illegal no longer holds.
You mail in your payment.
There are a few ways to stop unwanted mail from clogging up your mailbox, you can hire a mail blocking service (small fee), switch to electronic billing and statements whenever possible, and strike out the name of any mail you receive for a former resident (this lets the postal carrier know the person named on the mail no longer lives at this address).
no they cant do that that is a felony they can hold your belongings but must go to small claims court and sue you for damages etc they cannot hold your mail as far as i know IRS is only branch of government that can legally seize your property without a warrant but that's uasally afta repeated attempts to collect on debt i would advise talkin to an attorney about the mail deal sounds like they are a lil crooked
