In some states and countries it is illegal to remove dew claws, as well as dock ears and tails. Check with a veterinarian near you.
Some dogs need their dew claws for their own safety (i.e. using their dew claws is the only way they can climb out after falling through a thin patch if ice).
Dogs also use their dew claws to help hold onto objects like bones.
Some owners do not realize their dogs have dew claws if they are covered with fur. Neglecting to trim them may result in the nail curving around and getting embedded into the foot/leg. This is very painful and requires the dog to be taken to a veterinarian immediately to rectify the situation, surgery maybe required.
Also, if the dew claw is untrimmed, it is more difficult for the dog to clean it's face. Who wants to wipe their eyes with sharp, pointed objects?
If dew claws are to be removed, it must be done within the first few days of the dogs life, no later.
Go to a veterinarian to have them removed.
Yes, they do unless the owner chooses to remove them.
They can scratch you. They can get stuck on something and yanked off. It is better to just remove them. Thanks ERIC
You may have heard that they do not have dewclaws, but it depends on the dog. Sometimes they do have rear dewclaws and sometimes they don't. It depends on what genes the dog got from its parents

yes it is illegal.
probably because it dewclaws;)
It is not a necessity to remove dewclaws on any breed of dog. Some working dogs, herders and hunters, will have had theirs removed to prevent it from catching on something and causing injury to the dog.
.Hi there, are your pups dewclaws bone attached or skin attached?? That makes a huge difference in the difficulty of surgery and cost. When the dewclaws are bone attached, the surgery is of course more difficult as you are actually doing an amputation of the digit, skin attached, you are just removing the skin and claw portion. When they remove bone attached dewclaws, the surgical area will be wrapped for quite a bit longer. Most of the time when the dewclaws are skin attached they only wear the wraps for a few days and have the sutures removed in 10-14 days. Bone attached sutures are also removed at 10-14 days. The surgery for bone attached claws is more painful so we send pain meds home with the owner to help with the pups recovery. i have seen the bone attached removal one go for around $100.00 Hi there, are your pups dewclaws bone attached or skin attached?? no
It is Illegal and a violation of Federal Law, to remove the catalitic converter.
It is best to have all this done at a very young age, like around day 2. But It is never too late to remove dewclaws. But personaly, I have a puppy with dew claws and I do not want to take them out. But if your puppy will be digging, going through bushes, climbing or any other activities that could rip off their dew claws, then it would be beter to remove them. ( but they would be in pain when you do ) After day 2 it is too late to dock your dogs tail.
