Is it legal for a 16 year old to date an 23 year old?

I'm assuming that you can if you have your parent's consent, and full permission to do so. However, if you do not get your parent's permission, and you move in with him anyways, or continue to date him.... whatever the circumstances maybe, he can get into some trouble, because you are 16, and he is 23. But before making such a big decision, make sure you know what to expect, and that you'll be able to accept all the responsibilities that come along with all of it.

It is not legal for a 16yr old to move in with anyone over 17 without a parent's consent. I believe the only state it is legal is Nebraska, but I'm not sure. The age of majority in most states is 18, in Nebraska and Alabama it is 19, in Mississippi and Pennsylvania it is 21. In addition many states have laws that pertain to age differences when an adult and a minor are involved in a relationship. These laws not only pertain to a sexual relationship, but many other issues as well, the adult could be subjected to several criminal and/or civil penalties. Some charges that could be brought are, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, corruption of the morals of a minor. coercion or intimidation of an underaged person by a adult in authority, and numerous others. All states have the legal power to enforce any applicable laws w/o the co-operation of the minor and/or the minor's parent(s) or legal guardian.

Girl I think we will have to wait until we are a leats 17 and that is if we get to get emancepated.Until then we will have to wait until we turn 18. If it makes you feel better I'm 16 and my baby is 22 but my parents think he is 20.I'm sure that God is on our side because we are in love.

It is always better to have your parent involved with your decision. This is because they are responsible for your well-being while you are a minor. If your move is based on your wish to live with your boyfriend over any other issue, you should make sure that you are on Birth Control so that no pregnancy occurs and that you finish school. Certainly you don't want to have anything happen that you will regret. During the week of Oct 9, 2007 Dr. Phil had a show about teenage pregnancy and marriage that may give you some things to think about.

When you are 16 you're still a minor you and your boyfriend can get into some trouble, especially if he's old enough to have a place of his own.

You're 16, you have a lot of time to think about whether or not this fella is gonna be IT. Moving in with someone is a big step and you need to be sure that you aren't taking things too fast.

2nd, if a 23 yr old man needs to date a 16yr old girl, something is wrong with him. There is a reason why he doesn't have a girlfriend his age. Most likely woman his age don't think much of him. You are young and beautiful, don't waste your time, and find yourself a boyfriend your age.

However if you really love each other then age doesnt matter.

And to be honest its not illegal, only sex is illegal (except in Europe where its ok).

There are no dating laws in the United States (as I'm assuming this is where you are from), however, until you are 18 - your parents can lay down the "laws" about who you see, and who you date. As far as sexual activities will depend on the state that you live in.
