It depends. Most work places have confidential clauses in place whereby works cannot discuss their pay rates with one another (or people outside the firm). however, in some professions, such as teaching, or the public service (i.e. Army), they will have pay grades that are publicly available online to everyone.
Our work place is none profit workplace and i have been told other supervisors that what each person earns per hour is private information. But our supervisor posted this information in his none private office which is not locked any anyone can view everyone's income in our department.
