GEORGIA
Physical forms of discipline may be used as long as there is no physical injury to the child. Secs. 19-7-5/ 19-15- 1/49-5-180.[Ci.] Parent or person in loco parentis reasonably disciplining of a minor has a justification for a criminal prosecution based on that conduct. Sec. 16-3-20.[Cr.]
As long as you spank your child as discipline and are not doing it in anger you have nothing to worry about. Check yourself before you spank your child. I know sometimes they keep doing the same thing over and over and it starts to make you angry. Walk out the room and take a deep breath. If they are little put them in their crib/corner and take 5 minutes for yourself so you can calm down. Also it will be their form of time out if you feel like you have been spanking them too much for the same thing. Always be sure to check yourself though. These babies/children don't deserve anything more no matter what they have done.

Yes, go see a doctor.
The real answer is that children is a double plural. Like many other neuter nouns, the Old English word cild ( pronounced chilled) took an -r in the plural, giving cild-r-u. By Middle English, the -u ending for the plural was lost, leaving childer, which was then morphed into children by analogy (probably) with brethren.
