Wills are filed, after the death of the person, at the county Courthouse in the county in which the person died, in most states. (Or, Parish.)
To get a copy of a will, look up the Register of Wills Office in the county and State where the person died. Note: In some southern US States, you will need the Parish Name, not County. Then, write a letter giving all the information you have, including:
- Person's full name at time of death
- Death Date
- Date Will was Registered, also known as Probate
- Will Book Volume Number and Page Number (most offices will NOT look this up for you but you can hire a local genealogist... OR, you can ask the Office to Xerox the Index Page for that surname
