Is possession by a spirit a reality?

John 4:24 tells us "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth"

We are also told, Eph 5:18

8 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

Several scriptures also talk about our being the possession of God.

Titus 2:11-14

1 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus; 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

1 Peter 2:9-12

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul. 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may on account of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Many other religions and belief systems seek to be possessed by the spirits of this world which many believe are the fallen angels, the demons who were cast out of heaven at the resurrection of Christ.

I have encountered a number people and animals who have manifested this spiritual possession and usually resulted in their death.

The Spirit of God in Christ and now manifest in the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth has defeated the death of satan and we are urged to be filled with this spirit.
