//Unfortunately, there is little left of the Ripper case file. With several moves and two world wars, not to mention philpering, the file is very thin. Crime writer Patricia Cornwell did find some promising sample of DNA on letter flaps and stamps. There were enough Ripper letters left to compare paper types and watermarks.//

What percent of crimes are solved by DNA?

Approximately 35-40% of crimes are solved using DNA evidence. DNA technology has significantly improved the accuracy and success rate of solving crimes, especially in cases where biological evidence is left at a crime scene.

What is the percentage that someone will find out who Jack the Ripper is?

If you mean the likelihood, given that it is now over 120 years since his crimes and there is no surviving DNA evidence etc., it is extremely unlikely that Jack the Ripper's identity will ever be known for sure. What would be required is contemporaneous (i.e. circa 1888) physical evidence that has not been compromised by the passage of time. A written confession would be inconclusive without supporting physical evidence and would always provoke suspicion of a hoax (as with the Jack the Ripper diaries of the 1970s and 80s).There is certainly a lot of "undiscovered" Jack the Ripper memorabilia out there, and it is a well-known fact that police and others associated with the case at the time kept "souvenirs". Purported "Jack the Ripper" letters still surface from time to time and there is a roaring trade in memorabilia on the internet and through auctions etc. Whether any particular item is genuine is really anybody's guess.

Were the Jack The Ripper murders Masonic?

Whether Jack The Ripper was a Mason, we won't know until he is identified. But the murders themselves had nothing to do with anything Masonic. The man behind the Ripper was a sexual predator whose brain combined sex, violence and power. Some men like blondes, the Ripper was excited by violent sex and domination of his victims. There are enough theories to fill books, movies and websites many times over. Many have speculated about the Masonic conspiracies for over a century. In fact they have become synonamous with this case, not through fact or evidence but through ignorance of crime and criminal behaviour.

But is Jack the Ripper real?

The "Jack the Ripper" murders did indeed take place between August and November 1888. The Ripper did exist, though over the years a great deal of myth and legend has grown up around the basic facts of the case. These myths have been perpetuated in books and movies for over a century now, to the point where they have all but enveloped the brutal reality of the original crimes. But the answer is yes, the Ripper did exist.

Were any of Jack The Ripper's victims strangled?

I see this piece of 'fiction' time after time in books and information that should have been researched better. The best way to put this myth to rest is to look at the original autopsy reports (or what is left of them) in the Ripper files. There is absolutely no indication on any of the autopsy reports that would indicate that the victims were strangled or bludgened before being stabbed and disemboweled. What the evidence shows is most likely assualts from behind, throats cut from left to right first, then frontal attack with most likely the same knife that cut the throats. On one victim there was some very small bruising on the jaw, most likely the attacker put his hand over her mouth, pulled her back and cut her throat, this being accomplished in a matter of a second or two. This same pattern seems to have been repeated with all of the victims with the exception of Liz Stride. Stride being the only victim that was not mutilated most likely because the Ripper was interrupted by a street vendor. Maybe because this case was never solved and probably more has been written about Jack The Ripper than any other serial killer in history, but it has made the perfect situation for falsehoods and theories that are over time taken for fact. It's best to stick to the facts, the physical evidence, not just in this case but in all true crime cases.

What was Jack The Ripper's purpose?

The Ripper's only purpose was to please himself. His crimes were all about him and his power over his victim's lives and deaths. To the rest of the world, his crimes made no sense at all.

Have all the Jack The Ripper letters been examined for further evidence?

I would have thought this to be a forgone conclusion, but it was finally done in 2001. Patricia Cornwell's quest to ID the Ripper resulted in all the remaining Ripper letters that Scotland Yard was still in possession of.(many of the letters and other evidence has been lost or stolen over the 100+ years since the crimes)The results were amazing. Many of the hundreds of letters that were sent to Scotland Yard, the Press, other players involved with the Ripper crimes, turned out to be writtenin artist's paints and pencils. Some of the more recognized letters were thought to be written in blood, but were in fact artist's paint. There were many of them written with a purple artist's pencil. (There were other colors but purple seemed to be the author's favorite color)There were also many little drawings and pictures on a lot of these letters and notes. When most of the letters were dismissed as hoaxes it supports her theory that a well known British artist was the Ripper.

Is Jack the Ripper still alive?

* No-one ever knew who Jack the Ripper was * Jack the Ripper was never sent to jail * Jack the Ripper's crimes were committed in 1888. * That was 120 years ago. Now, ask your question again!

Was Jack the Ripper a pseudonym?

"Jack the Ripper" is a pseudonym in that it is a false name which conceals the true identity of the person to whom it refers. However, in this case it would be more accurately described as a soubriquet, as it is a type of nickname imposed by someone other than the person to whom it refers. The murderer now generally referred to as "Jack the Ripper" was originally known as "The Whitechapel Murderer". An letter signed "Jack the Ripper", purportedly written by the killer, was sent to the press during the series of murders and the press latched onto it as a suitably dramatic name by which to refer to the murderer. There is no evidence to conclusively prove that the author of the letter signed "Jack the Ripper" was in fact the murderer, and the police, press and others received hundreds of letters purportedly written by the murderer over this period.
