I have the same rifle. =) From oldguns.net it looks like about 200,000 were made somewhere between 1938 and 1945.
We have had(stevens savagen arms corporation USA Chicopee falls mass) for more than 3 generatins.My grandfather has bought it. It is still active.Thin and severe.
Stevens was founded in 1864 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Savage in Utica, New York, in 1894. Savage purchased the Stevens plant and name in 1920 and continued to make guns with the Stevens name in the Chicopee Falls facility until the late 1940's. The Stevens line was discontinued in 1991, but revived in 1998 or 1999 on a few "commemorative" models.

Savage Arms bought Stevens in 1920, and from 1920 through 1946 guns were made under both names at the Savage plant in Utica NY and at the Stevens plant in Chicopee Falls MA. In 1946, all operations were merged into the Chicopee Falls location, and then all operations were subsequently moved to Westfield MA in 1959. sales@countrygunsmith.net

The Stevens Model 58 Salvage Shotgun with no serial number was probably manufactured in the early 1940's in Chicopee Falls MASS. It's value could range from $400.00 to $ 1500.00 depending on condition. If it has the Chicopee Falls Mass manufacturer on the barrel a good starting point is $ 500.00 and up depending on condition.

Stevens guns were made at the plant in Chicopee Falls, Mass. Guns made from 1864 to 1886 will be marked J. STEVENS & CO. From 1886 to 1916 they were marked J. STEVENS A & T CO or J. STEVENS ARMS & TOOL CO. No Stevens firearms were manufactured from 1916 until 1920 when Savage Arms purchased the facilities and name. From 1920 until 1942 (or '48) Savage marked guns J. STEVENS ARMS CO and after that simply STEVENS or STEVENS/SAVAGE. The Stevens name was discontinued in 1991.
