Somewhere either on the money order itself or the receipt there will be a name, address and possibly a phone number of the issuing company. You should have kept the receipt from the money order, so that will give you the number of it. You contact them, ask what their requirements for tracing a money order are, many times, there is a fee for this, I know the particular money order company I use, its $50, which I personally think is outrageous, but it can be done. And they will do it. Then, if this is in question in an already filed or about to be filed lawsuit, I would keep documentation of this fee and when it comes back as your landlord cashed this money order but failed to post it within his accounting, which has ultimately caused this fiasco, I would then sue him for the amount you paid for aquiring this money order proof. Or counterclaim, whichever is best suited in your situation.
