A C average isn't much to ask for in order to get a driver's licence. It's average and barely passing. You should maintain the C because your parents asked you to, because you need to get an education if you are going to be a responsible driver and work to pay bills, and because it shows that you are mature enough to keep your end of the bargain with your parents.

Teenagers should maintain a minimum of "average" passing grades in high school to get a learner's permit and driver's license because:

1. An education is much more important than driving a vehicle.
2. An older person, not in HS, can always learn to drive later, but a teenager would rebel against being "held back" in a grade level for another year based on poor grades earned.
3. If a teenager shows irresponsible behaviors about school work--not doing assignments, failing to study, failing tests--they will display similar irresponsible behaviors about driving and rules of the road.
4. Teenagers cost more money to insure, especially male teens. If grades are linked to earning the right to obtain a Learner's Permit, perhaps insurance companies would be persuaded to lower the insurance rates for students who earn excellent grades.
