Steno's Laws, formulated by the Danish geologist Nicolaus Steno in the 17th century, are foundational principles in geology and Paleontology. They include the Law of Superposition, which states that in undisturbed sedimentary layers, the oldest layers are at the bottom and the youngest at the top; the Law of Original Horizontality, which posits that layers of sediment are originally deposited horizontally; and the Law of Lateral Continuity, which asserts that layers extend laterally in all directions until they thin out or encounter a physical barrier. These principles help in understanding the chronological sequence and geological history of rock formations.
