What are birth certificates?

A Birth Certificate is a legal document saying where (in what country) you were born and when; it also says to whom you were born (the names of your birth mother and father). It is an important document because when a person is older, they will need to provide verification of citizenship (necessary for getting a job, getting married, getting a passport, etc).
