There is no exact ceremony defined in The Bible regarding marriage. Marriage is a physical and a spiritual union of a man and woman that begins and is bound with God by "WORDS" of intent.
Most folks don't normally think about "words"... that they are "spirit" that enter into one's mind... and stay there forever. The words we utter are "binding" to our Creator -- FOREVER!
By His Word... God created the universe [whether or not anyone can understand or fathom it]. And when He returns to earth to establish the Kindom of God here -- He will establish Justice and Equity and make war by the Word of His mouth.
"...he shall Judge the poor, and reprove with Equity for the meek of the earth: and He shall smite the earth: with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips shall He slay the wicked." (Isa.11:4)
The Bible establishes marriages [and so many other things that men do, from business, to personal relationships] WITH WORDS.
"...He commanded, and they were created. He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: He hath made a decreewhich shall not pass." (Ps.148:5-6)
"...out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh... But I say unto you, That every idle word that men speak, THEY SHALL GIVE ACCOUNT OF IN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." (Matt.12:34-37)
Words are callously flung into the air by men... often without consideration or forethought. But, God hears them... and our minds, hearts and spirits store them all into memory [to be accessed and replayed in the Judgment].
So, has marriage become a letter-of-intent "contractual agreement" with men... with loopholes and fine print whereby the contract may be easily broken... without commitment or responsibility. Very complicated... and very burdensome... and very shallow.
But, with God... all He has to do is "hear the words" of a man and woman, dedicating themselves to each other -- in His name -- AND IT IS DONE.
God spoke the world and the life upon it into existence with His WORDS... including the male and female, which He made also:
"And God [His name is Jesus Christ - John 1:3] saw every thing that He had made, and , behold, IT WAS VERY GOOD..." (Gen.1:31).
Marriage doesn't have to be an elaborate affair [although it certainly may be]. It only has to be one in which a man and woman dedicate themselves to each other in God's name. Just make a vow of words, and according to the principles of the Bible -- it is done.
"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Words shall not pass away." (Matt.24:35)
God takes the words we speak deadly seriously -- for they shall judge us. And men would be wise to treat God's Words the same way. In the end... it's not the physical part of marriage that endures... but the spiritual. Yet they are both established with the speaking of "spiritual words":
"...the flesh profiteth nothing: the Words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are Life." (John 6:63)
