What cause a person to be a serial killer?

///This is one of the most misunderstood facts about serial killers. Most suffer from not mental illness but have a personality disorder. They are not ill, it's their personality. It can't be changed, no treatment or drug will change this behaviour. Successful serial killers (ones that don't get caught) are intelligent, in control, and plan their crimes in detail. Mentally ill people are erratic and at times out of control. They would be caught quite easily. Of course there have been serial killers that do suffer from a mental illness, but it is usually not so severe that they can't function, and they are in the minority.

Serial killers can be sociopaths. Sociopaths are people who have problems with their conscience. Sociopaths may lack a conscience entirely, have holes in it, or are somehow able to neutralize any sense of conscience or future perspective.

Also, serial killers have been known for being schizophrenics. Paranoid schizophrenia is a type of schizophrenia in which there are prominent delusions or auditory hallucinations with relatively preserved cognition and affect.

Since the beginning of civilization there have always been been people missing a few too many brain cells, and become a parasite to society. Feeding on the pain and misery of innocent human prey. There could be any number of causes what i have read mostly deals with childhood incidents and then the child grows up and harbors hateful feelings toward people that remind them of the incidents in childhood mostly children who were physically, mentally or sexually abused mostly bedwetters and animal abusers they get a sexual rush from their killing sprees and feed upon that.

There is probably no single answer to this question. Experts in this field are not entirely clear as to what goes into the making of a serial killer. And there are probably many different factors that 'set off' a person that begins a career in killing strangers. Internal and external stress in the individual's life is most likely a contributing factor that sets the 'wheels' in motion. Once begun, the inclination to continue is overpowering for the killer.*

*Reasons for serial killers cessation:death or extreme illness, incarceration, old age. Moving to a new location, which is very common, does not mean the killing has stopped, it just moves to a new community.

Most serial murder is sexually motivated but the underlying reason is power. The killer wants power over his victims.
