What do you do after you get your degree in law?

First, exhale... Passing the Bar exam usually means you can be licensed to practice law in that state. The next step is to get someone to pay you for doing it. If you're really lucky, really connected, or your dad has enough political pull, you'll join a big law firm, get paid a ridiculous salary for a punk kid just out of law school, handle all the crap cases until the older lawyers drop dead at 45, and then you'll gradually move up the ladder. You'll be supporting two ex wives and a couple of girlfriends, popping pills and drinking yourself silly every night. OR, you could set up shop by yourself, defend people who don't have the money to pay a $400 dollar an hour lawyer, do the best you can, and be a meaningful member of society. It's up to you.

They must be nominated for membership in the bar by a current member of the bar. The nomination has to be accepted by a judge and then they are sworn in to practice in the courts of that state. This can be done privately in the judges chambers or it may be a part of a 'mass' swearing in. One also has to be sworn in to practice in Federal courts and also the Supreme Court of the US.

Then he/she can practice law. Most beginning lawyers start in salaried positions. Newly hired attorneys usually start as associates and work with more experienced lawyers or judges. After several years, some lawyers are admitted to partnership in their firm, which means they are partial owners of the firm, or go into practice for themselves. Some experienced lawyers are nominated or elected to judgeships.
