It drops to the lowest part of a body, so if the body is lying on its back, blood pools in the tissues around the spine, back of the head, and back of the legs. If a body is propped onto one side, the blood pools to that side. If part of the body is lower than the rest of the body (for example, an arm hanging from a bed), the arm to fingertips would also have a higher collection of blood.

But, because the heart is no longer pumping, the blood changes into a more congealed form.
