The idea would not work at all. The country is too large, for one thing. It costs more than $1 million to hold a national election. Can you imagine such an election for each law? Further, there would be fraud and disputes and demands for re-counts. Also, most people would lose interest in voting or vote without bothering to study the issues. Many issues, such as tax law , health insurance, labor law and so forth are very complicated. One really needs to be a lawyer or else have a staff of lawyers and others who are expert and will study the issue and make recommendations. The general populace can not do that,
