Nothing will happen if you renew your driver's license after it expires! Just go to your DMV or local notary office if your state has one and renew, your license will be renewed and you will get a new picture done then or a camera card to have a pic done at another location. But you will NOT need to retest as some people think. Also, save yourself some time and go to your state's DMV on line and renew there, once you are renewed keep the receipt with you and you are then LEGAL again!

Added: The above answer applies if the license has only been expired for a set (usually short) time period (set forth in your state's DMV regulations). In most states, after the expiration of a certain length of time you MUST re-apply and re-test.
