The Copyright Term Extension Act added 20 years to most US copyrights, to life of the author plus 70 years and for works of corporate authorship to 120 years after creation or 95 years after publication, whichever is earlier. Sonny Bono had died several months before the bill passed, but his widow stated in Congress that he had wanted copyright protection to last forever, which would have been in violation of the Constitution.
