"Federal" refers to a union among groups in which each member agrees to subordinate its governmental power over common specified affairs to a central authority.

In the union of the States members agreed that the federal level was to provide for the military to safeguard citizens from foreign aggression. The state and city levels were assigned the task of providing police to protect citizens from domestic violations of their rights, and of providing courts to settle disputes. This is a limited government. The government is limited by what it may do.

Along with the division of powers within government (the executive, legislative and judicial), limited government was the triumph of the formation of a representative republic: to assure that the protection of individual rights was government's ONLY concern on all levels.

Today, however, the federal government has intruded into the private lives of Americans', trampling on their individual rights and giving itself more and more powers. We now stand dangerously close to becoming a fascist state.

A fascist state is defined as a central government of absolute authority which controls all property, telling citizens what to do with it but holding them responsible for its operations and failures.

The 2008 bail out is a case in point. For decades, the government poked its fingers into thousands of businesses and business procedures. Eventually, the federal government even entered the housing market, creating Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to provide citizens with loans for buying homes. Barney Frank's "Affordable Housing" granted loans to those who could not afford them and had no means of repaying them. Such a situation had to collapse. When it did, politicians, Mr. Frank prominently among them, panicked and in frenzy blamed "greedy" businessmen and "greedy" bankers and "greedy" traders for the fiasco.

The 2008 financial crisis is typical of a government that ignores individual rights, interferes in private enterprise then holds Americans responsible for failures it caused.

The lesson to be learned is this: a crucial link exists between individual rights and limited government. Decimating individual rights destroys limited government and government becomes a behemoth threatening every citizen.
