As far as I know, it is not set on an age level, but a weight and height level instead for safety reasons. Check the sun guard thing on the passenger side of the car, where there is most likely more information on that subject. A recommended age would be about 13 with the seat pushed all the way back. Airbags can be extremely harmful to smaller children.

One of the issues you would run into there is, the issue that air bags, and smaller children don't really seem to mix well. I know if they are in a child seat, the airbag can kill them. It is all relative to their height, the manufacturer of the car, when it was made, where it was made, single, or dual stage bags, and, there is one more little thing to factor in. Rate of impact. Combined with the distraction factor, possible vision imparement, and, I don't know about you, but, me, personally. I'm not a real goal orientated person. However, it is a personal goal of mine to make it through this world without ever having to tell a parent that I just, accidently, killed their kid. The backseat is a safer area, in my opinion. With the way some of these people drive today, it really isn't in our hands, anymore.

Added; Define more clearly what kind of school "vehicle" you are referring to.

If you are referring to a school bus . . , they are built according to government authorized standards and a child/student can sit in any seat meant to be used for that purpose.

If you are speaking of a sedan-type vehicle, then the laws of the state regarding age/weight/height for children seated in the front seat WOULD apply.

There is no universal answer to this question - every state mandates different values which can depend on the child's age - height - weight. You must contact the DMV or local authorities in your particular state.

The law is 12. But it's all personal choice, up to the parent. If you are in an accident and the child is not activating the air bag it could mean serious injuries.
