The age is 18 under house bills AB99 and AB186 both passed in 1997.. the person who said something about going to court is talking out of their mind.. there's absolutely nothing in any state that says you have to go to court to get legal documentation. (although South Carolina actually passed a law that states tattooing is illegal, period.. weird, huh?)
Although there is nothing saying you can't get parental consent to get a tattoo (with the parent or legal guardian would have to BE THERE, not just sign a waiver), the actual age to get one is 18 in the state of California with proper identification at the time of the tattoo.
