A female pirate is sometimes called a "pirette." There are a significant number of pirettes in history, such as Ching Shih of China who at one point commanded over 1,500 ships and 80,000 sailors. The navies of China, Britain, and Portugal could not defeat her fleet and eventually offered her peace, which she accepted. She is regarded as one of the most powerful pirates, male or female, in history.
