First of all: Individuals can NOT "press charges." Only State Prosecutors may bring charges in court.
The victim/complainant would have to report the forgery to law enforcement who would then investigate the alleged offense. There is no time limit on reporting the offense to the police, but there IS a six year Statute of Limitations during which the perpetrator must be charged. After the expiration of that time, no criminal charges can be brought against them even if it is later KNOWN that they committed it.
Why would you want to wait to report it? The fresher the crime is the simpler it is to gather evidence and apprehend the perpetrator.
