Some football fields are artificial turf and some are real grass.
Only two ballparks in MLB still use artificial turf. Rogers Center (Toronto Blue Jays) and Tropicana Field (Tampa Bay Rays).
There is no basic difference in sod and turf. Both are grass grown for use in lawns. The only exception to this would be artificial turf used on some athletic playing fields.
Artificial turf for soccer fields is typically required to be a shade of green to closely resemble natural grass. This color helps players identify the playing surface and enhances the overall aesthetic of the field. Additionally, specific markings for the game, such as lines and goal areas, are usually painted in contrasting colors like white or yellow.
Most indoor stadiums use AstroTurf and outdoor stadiums use natural grass. Also most use green grass!:)
Rugby is played on fields (called a pitch) all over the world. It is traditionally played on grass, but sometimes on artificial or astroturf fields in the recent years.
either live or artificial, depends how much money they want to spend vs. maintainence
Artificial grass, used mostly either to sustain green lawns or fields in places with cold or sun-challenged climates, or to save on watering costs, is made in several countries, including the United States, the UK, and China. Artificial turf was invented in North Carolina ca. 1960.
Most fields are natural grass. Some have artificial turf instead, specially in regions where grass has difficulty growing, such as frozen north and dry south regions. It's made of a soft vynil.
Natural grass, artificial turf, and the new manufactured turf which looks like grass but made out of rubber.
Artificial grass does not need mowing. It stays green. However athletes hurt themselves more on artificial turf.
Field hockey played on a grass turf is very common in most countries otherwise involved in field hockey, in areas which do not have easy access to an artificial turf or simply wish their players to play on a grass field for some reason (it is cheaper to maintain and players with major experience on grass often have better coordination and skills than those who play on artificial or other fields).
