Made around 1939. Is it chrome plating, or factory nickel? Contact Colt Firearms, and ask them for a 'factory letter' that will tell you whem the gun was made, what finish it had, who it was shipped to, etc. If the gun was refinished, the value usually goes down. Get the factory letter, and go from there.
1960, 500 each,special serial number
It appears to be a factory serial # on the butt, it is chrome with 3.5 " barrel, it has black grips with the S&W on them and I can't make out whether it has the S&W engraved on the side of the frame
The value of a chrome plated colt python with a 4 digit serial is $800.
if it's a New Service model it was made about 1920
No such S&W model.

To determine the age of a 32 caliber Secret Service Special revolver with serial number 178866, you would need to consult production records specific to that firearm model and manufacturer. The Secret Service Special revolver was produced primarily in the early to mid-20th century, so the serial number can help establish a rough manufacture date. Generally, collectors and firearms experts can provide more precise dating based on the serial number and other features of the revolver.
S&W did not make a firearm with that name.
if a New Service model made about 1920
