It depends on the state you are in. For pet primates In some states you can not own a primate. In other states you will have to get a licence from the state (different states call them different licences), or city and in some states no licence is needed at all. If you are using the primate for business/show you will need to obtain a USDA licence. The licence will also come with routine inspections of the primates living quarters as well as you keeping good vet records with the primate. If you are getting a monkey please consider buying two monkeys, I know it may seem like a lot but they really need the interaction with other monkeys like them. Not only will obtaining two monkeys be beneficial for them, but also for you because you could leave them alone with each other for a little bit, where as if it was a single monkey it would need attention pretty much 24/7. If you are getting a pet primates, please do your research on them. I fully agree on having them as pets but some states have outlawed them and or you need a permit to have them. Any level of government can outlaw them so not only check with your state, but your county, and city/town. Good luck with your primates.
