People fear that if the government has too much power, individual freedoms and civil liberties will be curtailed, leading to oppressive control over personal lives. This can manifest as restrictions on free speech, privacy, and the right to dissent. Additionally, there is concern that governmental overreach may result in the erosion of democratic processes and accountability, ultimately diminishing the ability of citizens to influence their governance. Such fears often stem from historical examples where unchecked power led to authoritarian regimes.
Thomas Jefferson. Smart man... The actual quote by Jefferson is "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." A variation of this was written by Alan Moore in the V for Vendetta comic book series in the late 1980s (which was made into a movie in 2005). The quote in this was: "People should not fear their government. Government should fear their people."
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. Thomas Jefferson
The rulers use fear to maintain control over the people
fear of concentration of power in national government... :)
Simple answer: the fear of big government. One view that the Antifederalists had was that the majority of power should be held by the states, not the central government. They played on the fear of a repeat of Britain: power in the hands of a few.
The House of Representitives was formed. And still government power was abused.
