Because her husband might have died at sea.
Hester Prynne recognizes her husband, Roger Chillingworth, in the crowd. She is confused when she sees him there, because she doesn't know what has happened to him or how he got there. She is embarrassed because he, along with everyone else can see what crime she has committed.
Roger Chillingworth's main objective in The Scarlet Letter is to slowly torture Hester by reminding her of her crime as constantly as he can, the reason for his repeated visits to her throughout the novel.
Hester Prynne committed adultery whereas Mike Tyson committed rape. However Tyson's second wife Monica Turner claimed when she filed a divorce that Tyson did commit adultery during their 5 year marriage that "has neither been forgiven nor condoned." Regarding Turner's allegations there has never been any evidence brought forward to prove this.
She had an affair with Dimmesdale, the minister, while she was still married to a man, Roger Chillingworth, who had been in the woods for a long time. She did not love Chillingworth (thats not his real name by the way, but the narrator does not remember it and that is what Chillingworth addresses himself as.) she was in love with Dimmesdale. She got pregnant and little Pearl came out. The Magistrates questioned who was pearls father but she never told. it was not really a crime, it was more of a sin i guess.
In "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the letter A represents adultery, as the main character, Hester Prynne, is forced to wear a scarlet letter A on her clothing as a symbol of her sin. It serves as a public reminder of her transgression and brings to light the hypocrisy and judgment of the Puritan society she lives in.
After the discovery of her crime Hester sees herself as a social pariah. She is also worried that someone will try and harm her baby.
After Hester is released from jail and made to stand on the scaffold, she is an outcast in the town. She does not leave though, because unconsciously she believes that she must remain in the place of her sin until she is somehow purged of the sin. If she were to leave in anger or with a desire to bury her past, it could leave her unsettled for the rest of her life. Therefore she remains in Boston.
she has to walk around with that big A on her shirt..
Witchcraft
They were accused of espionage.
Witchcraft.
None, for two reasons. First, none of the executed were actually witches by any definition. Second, in Puritan New England, witchcraft was a capital crime, thus the punishment for witchcraft was hanging.
