Unless you are the heir to a multimillion dollar empire, or your parent is a political office holder, or your kidnapper knows you, the odds of you being kidnapped in the US are about the same as being struck by lightning or being attacked by a shark (slightly better than the odds of winning a lottery jackpot). The truth is kidnapping just does not happen that often. Most people automatically take the precautions they need to take to prevent it. That is not to say you should just let your guard down; there are people out there who would do other than attempt to kidnap you.

If you are attacked, and you are able to get away, do it. Run! always. While you are running, scream. Don't scream "Rape," don't scream, "He's after me." Scream "FIRE!" People will always run to see a fire.

If your attacker has a weapon, do what you can to stay away from him/her. Human behavior dictates that the gun that is seen is less of a danger than the one that isn't, and the knife that is seen is far more dangerous than the one that isn't. Don't try to fight back if your attacker has a weapon. DO try to get away. A knife is only effective at arms reach, and most people could not hit the broad side of a barn from the inside with a hand gun especially if that barn is moving away from them rapidly and screaming, "FIRE!" Even if you were to by some convergence of chance get hit by a bullet, you are likely to survive, keep running until you can get to a public place...a bar, convenience store, gas station. And, when you get there, keep screaming...the more hysterical the better--people are more likely to try to help you if you are hysterical. Seems weird, maybe, but it is how humans behave. Besides, the shock may keep you alive.

Remember, fear is your friend, awareness is your companion. Use them both effectively.

Scream (if you are younger) "this is not me mom/dad" so that people will realize that it is just not another child parent spat. If you are too old for that then scream "fire" to get attention. Someone will call for help.

Hit their nose really hard with intent to break it if you don't think you can do it then don't you will only make your kidnapper more angry.

kick them in the groin with intent to crush they will most likely fall down giving you a few seconds to make a breakaway .

Act really crazy like as crazy as possible, let lose and go nuts! The kidnapper will think "wow they are crazy, I don't really want to bother with them"

If you do actually have a fear of being kidnapped then i recommend that you take up some form of defence class e.g. martial arts and then you will feel more in control of the situation if you did happen to be involved in one! But if you do come to being kidnapped and you havent got any form of defence, do you best to scream and gain attention by shouting and waving around, if there is no one around do your best to fight off the attacker by injuring them or knocking them out so that then you have a chance to escape.

When you are going out i highly recommed you take a mobile out with you so that if you get the chance you can call the police and ovbiously if you did get shoved in the back of a van then you can quickly but quietly try and text someone or ring for help so you can be rescued! Good Luck! x

If you are stuffed into the trunk of a car, try to destroy a taillight. Then if you can get an arm out the hole, do so, and hope a passing motorist calls the police.

If there is nothing you can personally do, make a scene. Scream and yell for help. Get attention anyway you can. If you have a phone, call 911. Observe every little detail you can.

• What do they look like?
• Are they white, black, Hispanic, Asian?
• Are they tall or short? Heavy or thin?
• What color is their hair?
• Beard or mustache?
• What were they wearing?
• Did they have tattoos or piercings? Did they have a weapon?
• Did they say anything? Accent?
• Were they in a vehicle? What kind?
• Were their bumper stickers or could you get a tag number?
• Which direction did they go?
• Were they alone?

Any little detail could be important. Take it all in if you can. If you do not have a phone, get to one as soon as you possibly can!
