There are different theories of organized crime. The first one is the queer ladder of mobility theory that states that organized crime was a means to accumulating power and money. There is also the social control theory that says that family, community and social bond will either encourage or prevent entry into a life of crime for an individual. It continues to state that fear of embarrassment, punishment and psychological restraints will restrain people from engaging in organized crime. Corrupt political machines create environments where organized crime can thrive due to lax enforcement and the ability to operate with impunity. Social disorganization, characterized by weak community bonds and lack of resources, can also contribute to the growth of organized crime by providing fertile ground for criminal networks to establish themselves and exploit vulnerable communities for profit. Together, these factors can fuel the development and expansion of organized crime groups within a particular region.
