You are probably referring to the Louisiana politician Huey Long. His nickname was "Kingfish." He was a former governor, and also was elected to congress; Long was well-known across the US-- a fiery populist, he preached redistributing wealth away from the rich, to ease the suffering of those who were struggling during the Great Depression. Long was frequently heard on radio and he gave very dynamic speeches in person too. He announced his candidacy for the presidency in August 1935. Unfortunately, he was assassinated in September. He was only 42 years old when he died.
