Not all people who want a drivers permit are in school. If you are over 18 you don't need a school record.

You will need prove of identity and U.S. citizenship or residence (in U.S.) that could be a birth certificate, passport or other ID listed in the drivers handbook.

You would also need proof of address which could be a billing statement with your name on it, the drivers handbook has a list of acceptable proof of address.

You will need to show your social security card.

You also need to bring the right amount to pay for your permit, most states is near $20.00.

Of course you first must pass the knowledge test before you will be issued a permit.
