Do as they ask. If you don't know why you were stopped, ask. It was probably a mistake on your part but sometime they do make mistakes. If you're out of state and you're stopped for something like talking on a cellphone(this is the only example i know and easy fix to) show them your call log. That way they can see when you made your last call and if it was a mistake you can go on with out a ticket.
