A gangster is more or less what you see in dangerous gangs now days all across various cities around the globe. More a territorial thing rather then drug trafficking, prostitution, protection, you see Mobsters getting up too.

So example: The bloods & the cribs = gangsters

Columbian cartels = mobsters.

Well obviously the Mafia. Gangs are too stupid. They act hard and kill a couple people but they arent as near as powerful as the Mobs. All these Crips and Bloods are fakes. First of all most gangsters in street gangs don't last a week because they have no street smarts and will die or get arrested. The Mafia on the other hand is respectable. They aren't ignorant idiots like the street gangs. The Mobs are smarter hardly ever get caught by the police. They plan out what they are doing unlike gangs. These ignorant street gangs don't influence anybody except for black teenagers. All they are doing is making blacks and Mexicans look even more evil.

Gangs are groups of thugs that mostly do petty crimes such as robbery, extort money from small businessess and involved themselves in gang wars. Mafias are organised crime groups that mostly do crimes such as bootlegging, smuggling and they have connections from high positions in the government, from judges to mayors and police officers. Mafias are very dangerous cos if you get in their way, you will be killed by them.
