The President nominates judges and justices to the following courts:

  1. Supreme Court of the United States
  2. US Court of Appeals Circuit Courts
  3. US District Courts
  4. US Court of International Trade
  5. US Bankruptcy Courts
  6. US Tax Court
  7. US Court of Federal Claims
  8. US Territorial Courts
  9. US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces
  10. US Court of Veterans Appeals

While the President is actively involved in appointing appellate court judges and justices, he (or she) often nominates judges to lower courts and to Article I legislative courts (e.g., US Bankruptcy Courts, US Court of Federal Claims) at the suggestion of Senators in the President's own political party, as a matter of Senatorial courtesy.
