This question isn't a law question in any sense that I can tell. Though the answer for why people do knife crimes as in stabbing cutting etc. is mainly what some call crimes of passion. To use a knife on a person you have to be up close and its more of a personal attack. Firing a weapon is more long range so you're more disassociated with it. But, knife crimes are very personal. It goes back to instinct. If you are in the mindset a knife is the only choice for some. While using a gun is what others would consider safe, they don't have to actually see the person hurt or die or even bleed. They don't have to know. They can just believe it and it is enough for them.
