Individuals that are the head of each executive department usually are the directors or vice presidents of those respective departments in most of these cases.
Each department head is the primary link between presidential policy and the secretary's own department.

They typically work in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building or their respective department buildings, such as the Department of State or the Department of Defense. The Cabinet includes the Secretaries of each department and advises the President on various issues and policies.
