While you may not be able to trust any attorney absolutely you can usually trust that they don't want to be disbarred. That is they can lose their license to practise law if they betray your confidence or behave in certain ways contrary to your best interests. So in many way most lawyers are trustworthy to the extent that they wish to remain lawyers.
