The formation of a gang is best accomplished with three elements: bros, ho's and flow.
Bros are, obviously, your gang members. Ho's are the disposable female harlots who entertain the bros and flow is the money that provides motivation for activities of the gang.
As the kingpin of the gang, you must insure that all 3 elements are managed with alacrity.
Delving more deeply, the accumulation of flow can only be achieved by providing a commodity for sale. In the case of a "gang," the commodity can be guns, drugs, stolen goods, carnal entertainment, extorted cash, alcohol, tobacco, or a combination of all of the above. These commodities are typically known as "vices" to Her Majesty (including the US government, FBI, ATF, IRS, CIA et all) and fall under several jurisdictions of those imperial agents.
In contrast to "legitimate" business, the operation of a gang hinges purely upon the ultimate profit margin of the commodities involved.
A typical retail operation involving the "buying and selling" of a commodity is lucky to achieve a profit margin of 30%, while 12% is more common after expenses are accounted for.
In a gang, the profit margin of the selected commodities must be 300% to 3000% in order for the kingpin to achieve "mack-daddy" status and his bros to roll in enough flow to justify the inconvenience of occasional gunshots, stabbings, bludgeonings, imprisonment and death.
There is, however, a certain romance associated with this way of life that offsets the risks to an extent.
From an accounting standpoint, no kingpin has ever been successful in the long term without fully appreciating the above elements and being fully cognizant of the importance of bribing and/or avoiding the above mentioned imperial agents once his "business" reaches a certain size. This certain size depends upon the majority jurisdiction involved, but can be assumed to entail an overall accountable cash profit in the neighborhood of 250 thousand US dollars per year for 3 consecutive years. "accountable" means cash that is deposited in banks and/or otherwise attached to the name and social security number of the kingpin.
It should be noted that recorded cash amounts as little as $10,000 can alert imperial agents to activities of the kingpin, but few agents can justify the expense of opening a new operation at this level.
If the kingpin were to avoid banks altogether and buy 250 thousand worth of MOTOR VEHICLES and real estate for 3 consecutive years, his activities would fall under scrutiny of any number of agencies. But, this is not a matter that concerns us at this stage...
In the fledgling stage, a kingpin must concern himself primarily with "pimpin'."
"Pimpin'" involves more than one might imagine. While the term traditionally refers to the management of ho's, it really involves the complete day-to-day ability of the kingpin to manage all elements in his enterprise. Bros must be pimped, cops must be pimped, turf, rivals and all people involved must be influenced to an extent by the kingpin. Total control must be exerted to the point that even adversaries can be quantified enough that their affect on the enterprise may be accounted for.
If the kingpin is unable to accomplish this, he will fail.
If the kingpin is not at least one order of magnitude more intelligent than his top 10 bros, he will fail.
A kingpin must capitalize on his most advantageous commodity within a short period of time in order to achieve mack-daddy status. For instance, he must have inside information regarding shipping schedules of in-demand merchandise for hijack. He could also have leverage over a person who has the means to produce large quantities of controlled substances, or he could be unusually skilled at pimpin' a high-quality population of potential ho's.
Without the above advantages, the kingpin will fail or find it unusually difficult to achieve mack-daddy status.
Ultimately, when contemplating the establishment of a "gang," one is compelled to ask oneself:
Am I an excellent manager?
Can I inspire fear, admiration and obedience?
Can I remain emotionally detached from the day-to day inconveniences of pimpin'?
Am I able to outsmart my ambitious bros, loudmouth ho's, my competition, and the imperial agencies all at the same time while not getting shot for the 10 years it will take to stash 100 million $ in a bank which has so far refused the intimidation of the IRS and its HSA?
