If you are referring to civil law, it is important to not have any religious influence on civil law. A legal code should represent all the people and should be formulated by representatives elected by all the people. Most religions are patriarchal and do not provide women with equal rights. Most countries are made up of people with different religious backgrounds and people with no religious affiliations. Those are extremely important reasons why civil law should never be religious based.
