Education and skill are the major determinants of the earning of any individual in the market. Dueto gender discrimination, women are generally denied the education and the necessary skills to become worthy contributors to the national income. As a result, a majority of women have meagre education and low skill formation. This is one of the reasons why they get paid less than men. Also, the perpetuation of gender prejudices such as "a woman cannot do as much physical work as a man" put women at a disadvantage. Training and professional skill are also important factors. In many cases women get married and get busy in housework and thus they don't get professional training. So they are not employed in good jobs. There is also the factor of gender prejudice and they are considered physically weak compared to men. One more factor is housework. They are often forced to do housework and they have to bear the responsibility of a mother. So they cannot be as much dedicated in their work as their men counterparts. This situation can be resolved by sharing the housework.
No they were not. Men were paid more than women for the same work and women tended to be relegated to low paying jobs that were not valued, such as: housecleaners, cooks, waitresses, phone operators and hairdressers. It was much much harder for a woman to get a degree and when she did, she had a hard time finding work in a professional field, such as being a lawyer or doctor. Even in those fields, women were paid far less than their male counterparts.

In 1920, women in the United States earned significantly less than men, with average wages varying widely by occupation. Many women worked in low-paying jobs, such as domestic service or factory work, earning around $200 to $400 annually. In contrast, men typically earned over $1,000 a year for similar work. The gender pay gap was pronounced, reflecting societal norms and limited opportunities for women at that time.
During World War II, women in the Land Army in the UK were typically paid between £2 to £3 per week, depending on their age and experience. This pay was lower than what men received for similar agricultural work, reflecting broader wage disparities of the time. Additionally, some women received benefits such as housing and food allowances, which could supplement their income. Overall, the Women's Land Army played a crucial role in supporting food production during the war, despite the relatively low pay.
