Henry Morgan was the son of a Welsh farmer, but he had no desire to follow in his father's footsteps so he left home to seek his fortune. Unfortunately, he was shanghaied and shipped to the West Indies as an indentured laborer (basically a slave). Once he worked off his "debt," he was penniless and was recruited by a pirate crew in Barbados
