It is in the best interests, that when said - abductions occur. They are done so in a manner of which the invaluable cargo is not harmed, in any shape way or form. Simply medically looked over, a few vital readings, a memory gland fash, and most of these abductees would be 100% safe, seeing two things go forward, at an acceptable and logical manner. That would only leave the remaining two risks. Risk one, the human specimen would be volatile, and force our hand, and ending his life's force. The second would be the returning of a said "alien" species. But If this were to occur, these subjects will never be seen again. What we generally try to dictate, is how healthy and what is the common, all around DNA structure, of a earthling. We make precautions that the subjects are not harmed and returned safely to their homes...on most operations as such.

Assuming the abduction stories are true, it seems they are somehow connected with environmentalism and preservation of the species. One man claiming to be abducted said on Coast to Coast AM that they were being instructed on how to care for the planet and not kill each other.
