Generally, lawyers's use their middle initials for two reasons:

1.) To distinguish themselves from others in the field with the same first and last name.

2.) Many lawyers are pretentious pricks who think it makes them seem fancy. If an individual chooses to use their middle initial with extremely uncommon first and last name combination, they probably fall into this category. Unfortunately, many pretentious pricks with common first and last name combinations cannot be spotted using this method.
