There could be a number of things wrong that can cause the car to overheat while idling.
One of the first things you should check is that your radiator is not clogged up with road debris and restricting air flow through it. The debris can usually be rinsed out with water or blown out using compressed air from the back side (engine side).
Next, if your car has a 'manual' fan, you should see if the fan clutch is working correctly. The fan clutch is a device that is mounted directly on the fan itself, which works through temperature changes to make the fan spin faster or slower than the RPM's of the engine. You can often tell if the fan clutch is working by listening to the sound of the air flow being created by the fan during engine warm-up.
If your car uses an 'electrical' fan you'll want to test the sensors that operate the fan first and then the fan motor itself.
Some cars have also been known to heat up at idle if there is a problem with the air conditioning system as well. If all the cooling system sensors test out OK, you may have to look into the air conditioning system components to diagnose the problem.
You may also have a partially clogged radiator, which will restrict the flow of coolant through it and can cause the engine to heat up at idle. Remember to never open the radiator or cooling system when the engine is hot.
If you are not comfortable in testing these things yourself, an area garage or service center would be glad to perform the tests for you.
it maybe just a timing problem
on the 2001 van, change the idling valve assy.
change left side windo
check your oil. if you have to put oil in it allot its your piston rings or valve seals
Idling is what your car is doing when it is just sitting somewhere running. As soon as you press on the gas it is no longer idling. Your idle speed is the number of RPMs your engine runs at when you are idling.
You dont you replace the timing control module
two things 1-air in brake system's cap off while engine idling not being properly bleed ed 2-poor brake booster or if brake system runs electronically malfunction.
That's when the air flow passing through the radiator is least, thus the fan runs.
At 35mph it runs rough. Also when idling it will quit running, sometimes. Does that sound like I need new spark plugs? How many miles are new plugs & wires good for?
Cuz it runs on diesel or your cat is shot, sorry bud.
one of the main reasons an engine runs on or diesels can be related to the fact that it is idling too fast. Set the idling down and see if this imporoves
why is my 1990 305 gmc idling rough when on the gas peddle runs great
