Its not that Americans don't like immigrants per se. We do not like people illegally coming into our country, speaking another language, insisting that things be written in that language, insisting on getting benefits that American tax payers flip the bill for, raising our crime rate, flying the Mexican flag, bringing their gangs and drugs or a number of other things that effectively trash our culture while insisting on bring their culture here. If that's not enough we simply do not need more people. But if an immigrant wants to come here they need to become American not be a Mexican in America.
In other words, racism and xenophobia.
Media culture often blames problems on Mexican immigrants that they are not responsible for, as it is easier to blame a target other than oneself. For example, economic problems can be blamed on immigrants as opposed to overspending and under taxing.
