Why does a constitution need to be amended?

The constitution was written 200 years ago and many things we have today were never thought of then and it is sometimes necessary to amend the constitution to address new issues. The constitution is also not perfect and there are times when things need to be clarified. For instance the 4th amendment left to the states what made up search and seizure. With various cases concerning searches the Supreme Court had to rule if the searches were legal or not. Voting amendments have had to be added because in 1779 only white land owners who were 21 were able to vote, so the 15th, 19th, and 26th amendments were added to solve this need.
