A two year old could be biting her nails for the following reasons:
1. Mimicing the actions of an adult; is there someone in your house that is biting their nails?
2. Nervous habit, is something bothering her? Is she scared about being dropped off at daycare in the morning?
3. Are her finger nails just too long and they are bothering her?
You should try and break her habit of this ASAP. Especially with the H1N1 virus you should get her to keep her fingers out of her mouth.
It looks like it from his pictures. What's the big deal? He's a 17 year old normal kid.
To help your 4-year-old stop biting their nails, you can try positive reinforcement, such as praising them when they resist the urge to bite their nails. You can also try to identify triggers and distractions to help them break the habit. Additionally, keeping their nails trimmed and providing alternative activities for them to do with their hands can also be helpful.

I recently turned 11 years old. I have been getting manicures since I was 10. If the parent thinks the child is mature enough I would say it was alright. But, please do not go to far as to getting fake nails. Fake nails do ruin your nails. As I was getting a manicure I was sitting by a woman who was getting her fake nails removed; she was almost in tears. Use caution, if the child bites her nails please tell her that it is dangerous to bite the nail polish. Please be careful and I wish you all the best! -Eugenie
Take him to the doctor.
